Sensitive Personal Information (SPI): Consumers can limit the use of sensitive data (e.g., SSN, precise geolocation, health info) to essential services.
Expanded Rights: Consumers have the right to know, delete, opt-out of sale/sharing, and correct inaccurate personal information.
Data Minimization: Businesses may only collect and retain data necessary for the purpose for which it was collected.
Opt-Out Rights: Enhanced rights to opt-out of the "sharing" of data for cross-context behavioral advertising, not just the "sale" of data.
Applicability: Applies to for-profit businesses in California with over $25M in gross revenue, or that buy/sell/share data of 100,000+ consumers/households.
Employee Data: Protects employee, job applicant, and independent contractor data, requiring that they be notified about the data being collected.
Enforcement: The CPPA acts as the first dedicated privacy regulator in the U.S..
